Clinical Exercise Sessions

Clinical exercise session are bespoke programmes tailored by physical therapists. They are intended to supplement your recovery journey from a sports or work-related injury, or as part of a rehabilitation process from surgery or chronic pain.

These sessions will give you a better understanding of how exercise can benefit the human body, while also reducing the risk of injury. Besides maintaining health targets, the sessions can help restore your musculoskeletal functions and improve your overall physical condition.

How do clinical exercise sessions help?

Clinical exercises help manage chronic pain in your neck, shoulders, lower back, hips, and knees. They are also highly effective at realigning your posture, which can prevent the development of future health issues. This process is extremely helpful for those who experience musculoskeletal problems and chronic pain.

The therapist will give you friendly and useful guidance on how each of the different training sessions can improve your joints and muscles, helping you better overcome mobility issues due to injury or illness. As your body responds to the exercise routine, it will increasingly approach its optimal state – with progress marked by reduced pain and lowered risk of injury.

By implementing a regular exercise schedule as part of the physical therapy programme, you will gain increased muscle control while improving your strength, dexterity, athletic performance and overall wellbeing.

How are the exercise programmes determined?

You will require a thorough, full-scale physiotherapy assessment by the therapist to determine your recovery targets and help decide which exercises will benefit you the most. You will then receive the exercise options in the session that are most suitable for your goals, including advice on how you can further improve your musculoskeletal condition.

Since every person responds to different physical exercises in different ways, your initial plan will be subject to assessment and later revision. You might recover faster than expected, or perhaps undergo a longer and gentler recovery path due to complications from your injury. The therapist will provide you with regular and friendly advice to guide your recovery in the best possible way.

What kind of exercises are involved?

Sessions typically involve a combination of Clinical Pilates and various functional exercises. Both of these approaches use a variety of different supporting equipment to help you achieve your goals. Training is intended to replicate and therefore facilitate your day-to-day activities, with additional muscle-strengthening exercises for your joints, such as squats and curls.

Clinical Pilates sessions are aimed at healing injury and returning your body to its normal state and function. The exercises will strengthen and stretch your muscles, rejuvenating your body and keeping your posture in balance. Sessions also focus on the core areas covering control, flexibility, stability, and breathing.

Functional exercises supplement Clinical Pilates by helping your body readjust to its regular daily activities and motions, which require synchronised movement of your muscles and joints. These specialised workouts also help alleviate pain, improve movement, and maintain a healthy weight. As you regain strength and stability, therapists can also show you how to maintain these improvements over time and at home.

Clinical exercise sessions utilise various types of equipment including reformers, fitballs, wobble boards, rollers, rotator discs, dura discs, dumbbells, a trapeze table, ladder barrel, Wunda chair, stationary spin bike, BOSU ball, TheraBand, and mini trampoline.
